Roads across Scotland are set to become the slowest in Europe under a £5 million plan to impose lower speed limits in areas where 30mph currently applies.
A draft law setting 20mph as the nation’s ‘default speed limit’ in every village, town and city is to be launched in the Scottish Parliament within weeks.
Councils across Britain have already set 20mph limits in certain areas, but those behind the latest plan want Scotland to become a ‘world leader’ by introducing the slowdown nationwide.
The Bill, to be unveiled by Greens MSP Mark Ruskell, is expected to have enough cross-party support, including from the SNP, to be passed at Holyrood.
