Regular visitors to The Football Pie League will know that Laura ‘Gooner’ Howard is coming to London on a visit from Brooklyn, New York, USA to see us next week.
The focus of her trip is to meet with fellow Gooners on 31st March when Arsenal play QPR at Loftus Road and again at Piebury Corner on the 8th April when Arsenal take on Man City to mark the anniversary of the passing of David ‘Rocky’ Rocastle.
Laura leads a remembrance group for David ‘Rocky’ Rocastle the Arsenal player whose image is one of the 32 all time Arsenal legends painted forever on the Emirates stadium. Laura is bringing a remembrance banner with her that has already been signed by Thierry Henry and doubtless before she goes back will have a few more famous names on it.
Anyone not familiar with David ‘Rocky’ Rocastle can take a look here
When Laura first started posting on our Facebook page about David Rocastle one of the team here at The Football Pie League remembered that David Rocastle’s son Ryan used to play for our local team Ascot United. So we contacted a few locals and have arranged the following…
The under 15’s first and second Ascot United teams will play a match on the evening of Thursday 5th April to mark the anniversary of David ‘Rocky’ Rocastle. Ryan Rocastle, David’s son has been asked to referee the match and we are pretty sure he will be able to (his mum said he would).
The two teams will mix players with two captains picking their players one by one and one team will play in Arsenal tops. Good old fashioned ‘Jumpers for Goalposts’ meets cutting edge amateur football. Ascot United has a floodlit pitch a small stand and a very hospitable club house. Food and drink will be available throughout the game with Free Pies for the boys playing after the game.
It’s all been put together at VERY short notice but we hope to see a decent crowd to remember ‘Rocky’ enjoy a pie and a pint or three and watch a good game of football.
Arsenal FC has supplied an Official Brand New Nike Players Outer Top, which will be awarded to man of the match. A few other clubs from The Football Pie League are looking into some other surprises for the boys on the night.
All football fans are welcome.
