The British Library is looking for a new Head of Commercial Services, combining a range of key revenue streams including Retail, Ticketing, Publishing (hard-copy and digital), e-Commerce and Brand Licensing.
The Head of Commercial Services will be responsible for growing revenues and gross margin contribution, developing new and exciting commercial services with a strong focus on digital, e-commerce and brand licensing opportunities. He/she will review and develop a new 3-year plan, establishing commercial and non-commercial key performance indicators and revenue forecasting. He/she will identify and secure new commercial partnerships with developers of new digital technologies which can showcase the Library’s collection, and will champion the development of apps and e-books, chairing relevant strategy teams. He/she will work with marketing teams to establish processes for monitoring the performance of all commercial services.
The Head of Commercial Services will have direct line management responsibility for a team of 4 senior managers and a total team of 21.
The ideal candidate will have experience working for a major cultural or heritage organisation with a strong and recognised brand, a publishing and new media programme and an established brand licensing business. They will have a strong track record in managing and growing commercial services, ideally in an all-encompassing role, though candidates with experience in specific areas such as retail, digital publishing, e-commerce and brand licensing will also be considered. They will be an experienced team manager with an excellent appreciation of the commercial potential of a major national or international heritage brand and the commercial and communication skills to develop compelling propositions for internal and external stakeholders.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity with a prestigious global heritage organisation.
