The Deck, the National Theatre’s unique and versatile rooftop event space, transformed into a 1950s seaside pleasure pier last night, marking the start of the UK’s celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
For one night only, guests could enjoy all the fun of the fair, including candyfloss, traditional games, a fortune teller, seaside treats and the odd seagull flying overhead! Fish and chips were of course on the menu as well as a seafood bar offering a diverse selection of oysters and great British classics such as sausage and mash. Guests also had the chance to win a luxury two-night stay* at boutique hotel Blanch House, Brighton, in one of the two feature rooms – The Galaxy or The Legacia – if they uploaded photos of themselves at the event onto The Deck’s Facebook page.
Located on the South Bank, The Deck is a unique central London riverside venue which offers awe-inspiring views of the city’s skyline. As part of the National Theatre, The Deck has access to the best theatrical expertise, including stage lighting, costume hire and theatrical props. ‘A Pier on The Deck’ highlighted the versatility of the venue to key members of the events and conferencing community, demonstrating how The Deck’s team can produce events that are memorable and distinctive and limited only by imagination.
Speaking about the event, Kat Parker, head of sales and hospitality events at The Deck, said: “’A Pier on The Deck’ was a great way for us to show our exclusive event space in a new light…and a new era! In a year of nostalgia and celebration of all things British we had such fun transforming The Deck into a quintessential seaside pier. The evening offered a unique opportunity for the industry to get together before the start of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and experience first-hand what the team at The Deck can bring to any event.”
