For the third year running, Foster’s lager has announced it will be partnering with the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, part of the world-famous Edinburgh comedy festival which will take place this year in August.
The shortlist for the awards will be decided on the 22nd of August, with the Best Comedy Show set to land a prize of £10,000 and additional prizes of £5,000 each awarded to the Best Newcomer and the Panel Prize winner.
Speaking at the launch of the 2012 Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards, Nica Burns, the awards’ Founder and Director, said: “Comedy is firmly established at the heart of the Edinburgh Fringe, providing 36% of all the shows. 2012 will be another record- breaking year for the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards with over 530 shows eligible.
“The real excitement is that the talent keeps on coming and we can all look forward to discovering a host of exciting new comedy performers and shows.”
Foster’s Brand Manager Niall McKee said: “Foster’s and comedy have become a famous double act since we put comedy at the heart of our marketing strategy with our sponsorship of the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2010.
“The Awards have given us the confidence and credibility to extend Foster’s association with the genre from grass roots stand-up in clubs and pubs through to nurturing Channel 4’s ‘Original Comedy’ series and the commissioning of exciting new shows for fostersfunny.co.uk.”
