A nationwide search for the UK’s most inspirational students has begun as The Student Room (TSR), the world’s largest online student community, celebrates its 1 millionth member.
A variety of activities are planned to celebrate this landmark event in the site’s history, including the launch of one of The Student Room’s biggest ever competitions, the ‘Student in a Million’ awards, a nationwide search for the most inspiring student stories of 2012.
The Student in a Million awards aim to celebrate the unsung heroes of the student world by highlighting unique talent and raw determination. It is split across three categories: Greatest Achievement, Against All Odds and TSR Superstar.
Managing Director, Jason Geall, commented: “We’re looking for the students in the UK who stood out during the 2011-2012 academic year for doing something to inspire us all. As exam results are announced in August, it’s very important that we celebrate all the incredible things that young people in this country achieve. We welcome everyone – teachers, lecturers, parents, colleagues and students alike, to nominate those students that they know who have done something special. We’ll be holding the awards ceremony in October to mark the occasion.”
Jack Wallington, Head of Student Marketing added: “The growth of social communities like The Student Room is remarkable. To put that figure of a million members into context, that’s enough students to fill all the venues in the Olympic park 6.25 times”.
