Online clothier thanks fans for 100K Facebook likes in The Golden Girls theme song remake (video)

What better way to show appreciation to Facebook fans than to reenact the best-friend anthem “Thank You For Being a Friend,” perhaps more familiarly known as The Golden Girls theme song. Bonobos, the popular US online fashion retailer, celebrated its 100,000th Facebook like recently by posting this video online and emailing it to customers.

The tribute was directed by summer interns, casting CEO Andy Dunn as Rue McClanahan (Blanche) and including just about every department in the company. Tracy Keim, VP-integrated marketing, says this is their fun Bonobos way of saying thank you to fans.

“We don’t just push stuff out,” she said. “We’re really excited to interact with them so we make sure we really engage with them. Our customers don’t just want to wear our clothes; they want to get to know us.”

Bonobos “Ninjas” (aka customer service reps) manage the social media accounts and do more than talk about pants. On any given day, there may be a Ninja on Facebook talking about the new season of The Walking Dead or posting a picture of someone from marketing using a tote bag as their preferred means of transportation.

It’s just a natural part of the retailer’s quest for “Likes.” Bonobos decidedly avoids using advertising or paid follows to earn fans’ thumbs up. Instead, there are programs like the Bonobos Happy Hour that offers Facebook fans exclusive offers every Friday.
