Mazuma Mobile, the UK’s leading mobile phone recycler expects to see high volumes of the iPhone 4 & 4s to be sent to them as soon as Apple announce the release of its latest handset.

The week following the launch, that number increased to over 200%. Over the past seven days Mazuma Mobile have received nearly 95,000 enquires from consumers wanting to sell their current iPhones.

Mazuma Mobile recycle over 20,000 handsets on an average week. iPhone launches represent the biggest spikes in consumers wanting to unlock the cash value stored in their current handsets. Since Apple sent out its invite to the media, Mazuma Mobile has already noted a rise in the number of handsets being sent, going up week on week with iPhone 4 & 4S making up a notable amount.
This launch period is very significant as it offers the greatest opportunity to introduce consumers to mobile recycling. Launches, such as Apple’s iPhone, highlight the general publics continued interest in the latest must have handset.
Charlo Carabott, UK MD said: “As in previous years, we anticipate very high volumes of iPhone 4 and 4S to be recycled worldwide once the iPhone 5 is available.
Industry experts predict that the number of iPhone 5 devices Apple will sell in the next 6 months alone will equal / exceed the combined total of all previous iPhone models sold since it launched the first iPhone device back in 2007.”
Carabott continued: “This means there will be a large number of handsets that could potentially end-up in draws. By offering consumers a sustainable way to recycle their old handsets and make some money, it will take the pinch out of buying the most premium smartphone on the market.”
Carabott went on to say: “One caveat to this however is the rise of mobile recyclers in other countries, all trying to sell stock into second hand markets such as Hong Kong. This could well result in markets being flooded with supply and the price crashing. For consumers wanting to maximise the return they get, we would recommend getting their handsets in early!”
