British horseracing is giving a leg up to a new generation of PR professionals

Racing for Change, the organisation which promotes British horseracing, is giving a leg up to a new generation of PR professionals through its Career Development Award, which is being offered in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

The prestigious award is open to Student Ambassadors who promote racing to their fellow students through university racing clubs and who can demonstrate their ability across a range of marketing disciplines.

Amy Grantham, Senior PR and Promotions Manager at Racing for Change said, “Employers nowadays are looking for more than good grades on a CV, so it’s important to get as much experience as possible to stand out from the rest of the crowd. This award gives students the chance to combine their passion for horseracing whilst demonstrating their practical skills and experience.

“By becoming a Student Ambassador, they’ll be able to kick-start their careers by making invaluable contacts across the horseracing industry and by developing their marketing skills, and they’ll also gain a winning edge in the jobs market through an industry-recognised marketing qualification.”

Max Millward is an existing Student Ambassador at Birmingham University who will be going for the award. He said, “We set up the club just over a year ago to introduce newcomers to horseracing and to bring like-minded racing enthusiasts together. It’s something I would definitely recommend to others as it’s been great experience and the CIM qualification is a great added bonus which allows me to continue promoting a sport I love whilst also helping to boost my CV.”

The award, which will run from September 2012 to June 2013, provides student racing enthusiasts an exciting opportunity to get involved in the horseracing industry and build up a portfolio of work across different areas of marketing including promotional activity, market research, event management and public relations. Throughout the award students will receive support from the Racing for Change team to help them promote the sport to their fellow students.
