Wm Morrison has had a tough Christmas. The supermarket has reported like for like sales were down 2.5pc in the six weeks to the end of December.

The company said the sales came in the backdrop of “difficult market conditions” but admitted they were “disappointing”. It reflects the “need to improve out promotional innovation and communication of our points of difference” the grocer added. The company said it expected the outlook to remain difficult.
