When is the best time to send out a B2B email marketing campaign?
Samantha Craven •”best”? Depends on your objectives and surely the answer is – the day doesn’t matter providing:
– your know your audience
– you have identified them correctly (i.e your data integrity is good)
– the format of the communication is relevant i.e is it a newsletter, survey, invite, short email, something with visuals etc
– the content is compelling, timely, relevant and articulate
– is your call to action (providing you have one) clear?
– can you measure the response?
I think if you can answer these questions and be confident in the answers then which day of the week you send is academic.
Denisa Turkova •I agree with Samantha, it truely depends on the audience you targeting, the message you trying to deliver. Also a question is if the campaign is leading to a specific date ( such as an event) or is ongoing.
Aleyx Perks •It depends on your target audience. For 2 of the companies I work with we send it out Thursday lunchtime which has always worked well. But for one company we send on a friday afternoon as it is the only time most of the workers are back in office. So, as I say it’s different for every target audience.
Michael Mosley •Yeah audience, content etc is the most important thing…………….But, there have been a number of studies that suggest the worst days are Monday & Friday, then comes Tuesday, then comes Thursday and Wednesday. Then the hours between 2pm-4pm are the best time to send, just after lunch!
What everyone has said is absolutely correct and I would advocate everything said to do with content, but there does seem to be improved chances on Wednesday and Thursday at about 2-4pm.
Simon Buckingham •Well thursday has always been a strong day for us but like Samantha says above it depends on your audience. This article was really good in breaking down a week in terms of email marketing… http://www.webmarketinggroup.co.uk/Blog/when-is-the-best-time-to-send-out-email-marketing-campaigns-1640.aspx
Tanya Fooks •As above but for me personally i dont believe there IS a “best time” any more (although this could still be industry specific) .
Personally I think the DEVICE used to view the email has eroded the time factor because mobile devices allow us to view emails much more when we CHOOSE to read them and not when they LAND in our inbox.
If you’re like me.. you up at 6am reading the emails on your ipad or mobile. I tend to take in the information from “marketing emails” much better at this time since i am dedicating my time to them rather than sneaking a peak at them while at work … when i should be doing real work :).
John Pindar •For some reason I have it in my head that Tuesday at 11am was one of the better times for B2B, but as with everything it depends upon a number of factors, audience being one of them. Tanya said earlier that 6am was the best time for her to actually take in the content of the e-mails, and I can certainly get why. It seems more of a case of experimenting with various times, and then comparing to see what works best for you.
Simon Buckingham •Amazing if you think about it… how long emails have been around for, and particularly email marketing… I wonder if there are companies out there that have worked out a full proof strategy, litterally the right email to the right person at the right time. Maybe that is the beauty of Marketing, it is always challenging!?
Will Corry •Some time back Tueday at 10am was regarded as the best time. A series of test emails might give a more definitive result.
