SA’s Beeld newspaper says local hero Oscar Pistorius tried to save his shot lover, Reeva Steenkamp. He punched a hole in the bathroom door to get to her. She was still breathing when Oscar Pistorius picked her up and took her downstairs.
This is ‘known’ because blood was spattered on the stairs. Other sources say they heard Steenkamp trying to breathe.
An unnamed source says Pistorius gave Steenkamp mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Pistorius has been charged with premeditated murder.
Police have removed the bathroom door at the runner’s Silver Woods Estate, east of Pretoria
Another unnamed source, or the same one (that’s the thing with unnamed sources, you can’t yell which is which) says Steenkamp was probably sitting on the toilet when she was shot.
Police removed many bloodied towels.
As for the alleged murder weapon, Oscar Pistorius has a firearms license for a Taurus 9 mm pistol and pending applications for seven weapons, including a 223 semi-automatic rifle. The paper stresses the fact that his possessing a licensed firearm indicates that police found him suitable to own one.
What else? Well, South Africa’s City Press moves on from telling readers that Pistorius’s tour of Australia is off to mention:
A bloodied cricket bat is the central piece of evidence in the unfolding murder investigation against Pistorius.
The newspaper reported that police were investigating two possibilities (only two?): that the cricket bat was used by Steenkamp to defend herself, or that Pistorius used it to break down the bathroom door behind which she was reportedly hiding.
An unnamed “police source” says they suspect the first shot was fired in the bedroom, and that the other three shots were fired at her through the bathroom door.
Such are the facts…
Photo: In this frame-grab from state television channel SABC 1 a tribute is devoted to slain model Reeva Steenkamp, girlfriend of Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius. South Africa’s national broadcaster went ahead with the screening of the reality TV show “Tropica Island of Treasure” Saturday, Feb 16, 2013, featuring the dead model. Steenkamp encouraged her family to watch in one of her last conversations with them before her shooting death at the home of Pistorius.
