El Camino del Rey is a narrow, man-made path suspended along the sides of the Gorge of Gaitanes, and which contours along the walls of this narrow, steep sided cleft 100m above the Guadalhorce river. Watch the video.
After four years of construction (it was originally built to connect two hydroelectric plants), the inauguration had to wait another 16 years (until 1921) when the Spanish King Alfonso XIII opened the dams and crossed the walkway. It has been called The King’s Pathway ever since.
