Insults fly as former Apprentice star insults working-class kids and red-headed babies Katie Hopkins has renewed her campaign to become TV’s most reviled personality by expressing her distaste for working-class children and red-headed babies. Hopkins, who emerged as a “hate figure” during her stint on the third series of the reality TV show, is forging a post-Apprentice career as a pundit.
Yesterday, she managed the impossible – getting Holly Willoughby, the mild-mannered co-host of ITV’s This Morning programme to bristle – when she linked children’s names to their class.
“I think you can tell a great deal from a name,” said Hopkins. “For me there’s certain names that I hear and I think, ‘Urgh’. For me, a name is a shortcut of finding out what class that child comes from and makes me ask, ‘Do I want my children to play with them?'”
Warming to her topic, and ignoring Willoughby’s increasingly appalled expression, Hopkins declared “I don’t like those sorts of children”. She singled out names such as Tyler, Charmaine and Chardonnay for particular criticism, before Willoughby cut her off saying: “That’s terrible, listen to what you’re saying.”
