6 August 2013, London, UK: Samsung Electronics UK has today announced the appointment of a new Vice President of Corporate Marketing, Russell Taylor, to lead brand strategy and communications across the entire Samsung Electronics brand in the UK and Ireland.
Russell will lead the 46 strong corporate marketing team at Samsung with a focus on increasing brand preference and awareness in both the consumer and business-to-business markets.
Russell joins Samsung from Unilever where, for the last seven years, he led the marketing for the Lynx brand globally, seeing it become one of the world’s most awarded – winning more than 50 Cannes Lions accolades including a Grand Prix for Effectiveness & Integration; as well as an Effie Award for Effectiveness and a Fifi award for Fragrance.
In his new role, Russell will join the Samsung UK Board and head up the Corporate Marketing team, driving consistent, brand-led communications for the entire Samsung business. Russell will report into Samsung UK and Ireland Managing Director, Andy Griffiths. As an award winning marketer with an eye for creating iconic campaigns, Russell is well placed to further develop Samsung’s UK communications strategy and take it to the next level.
‘The Lynx Effect’
Back in 1995, Russell worked on the very first advert for Lynx, produced with Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), when ‘The Lynx Effect’ was first coined. He and his team then went on to make a number of award winning ads including this year’s Lynx ‘Apollo’ campaign which gave people around the world the chance to travel into space, and won Gold at this year’s Cannes Lions. Before his most recent role as Global Brand Vice President for Axe/Lynx, Russell held various local, regional and global brand roles at Unilever including posts in Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador & Bolivia.
Andy Griffiths, Managing Director, Samsung UK and Ireland commented: “Samsung is an award winning brand so it’s only fitting that we work with such an accomplished, award-winning marketer to lead our brand communications strategy. Russell’s knowledge, strategic thinking and creativity will be highly valued as we further develop and grow as a brand.”
Russell Taylor added: “I am joining Samsung at such an exciting time. There is real momentum in the business and huge ambition for the brand, which is a big and wonderful challenge for me. I am looking forward to taking this on and giving the brand continued success through effective and innovative communications.”
