Four-year-old Adelaide Ames couldn’t sleep because she thought she kept hearing fireworks outside. So her dad, 32-year-old quantum physicist and maker-of-fun-science-videos-for-kids Benjamin Ames, decided they should sing to keep her mind “preoccupied.”
And to videotape it and upload it to YouTube because that’s the world we live in.
The song was written in 1926, but has been covered by the likes of Zooey Deschanel and Steve Martin.
With this cover, the 4-year-old took lead vocals while her dad provided backup on a pink ukelele.
What they produced is both hilarious and heartwarming.
Several times through the piece the 4-year-old stops the song to listen for fireworks. But her father reassures her that the fireworks are all over.
And then the two get back to their song without missing a beat.
Towards the end of the song, the girl seems more focused on the song and even gives her father directions on which part to sing.
