Shaken & Stirred - Influential Brand Profiling and Positioning

“Stop giving him the airtime he so richly craves now he wants to sell a book” David Long

Dear BBC
How sycophantic can you get? For years you were banned from attending Man Utd press conferences and Sir Alex Ferguson refused to speak to your journalists because you had the temerity to ask some challenging questions about his sons actions as an agent.
Now he has book to peddle you can’t just stop interviewing him, with different reporters in different locations. Why?
David Long

If he has anything interesting to say about his wine cellar, or gum wrapper collection, or his special slow watches then I’ll get the book from the Library.

It’s time you stood up to people who try to manipulate the press, and stop giving him the airtime he so richly craves now he wants to sell a book.

Another  viewpoint – also negative …
  • Dale Granger Clearly Sir Alex had a crush on Victoria…
  • Will Corry Dale Interesting thought. I had not picked up on that route.
  • Dale Granger He’s very comfortable Will. Man U are still paying him Pounds2M a year and he charges Pounds 100,000 a day for appearances. I think he is a very selfish, albeit successful, man. And I pity David Moyes, handed the poisoned chalice and living in the shadow of a megalomaniac who refuses to retire gracefully.
  • Dale Granger This was the fascist dictator banning one journalist – on video – from Old Trafford. His crime? Daring to ask how important Ryan Giggs was for an upcoming European Cup Game after it had been revealed he had been pomping his sister-in-law – for five years!!!
  • Dale Granger Having said that I have to be grateful to Sir Alex. I covered the wedding of his son in Stellenbosch for The Sun. Fastest Sterling 500 I ever made in my journalistic career. Sir Furious was full of charm that day and came out and gave us a 5min interview.
  • Stuart Kelly There’s a big difference between courting journalists after your career and during it. There’s no hypocrisy here. Move along, people.
  • Dale Granger The hypocrisy is not so much to do with journos as with the fact that Fergie axed players for less and despised ‘what goes on tour’ being splashed during his reign, but then retires and gives his former comrades in arms the tabloid treatment. Then again, I am an Arsenal fan, so there’s probably no moving on.
