Via adrants : Celebrating the notion that loving couples don’t truly love absolutely everything about their partners, Booking.com, with help from Wieden + Kennedy, is out with a wacky commercial that celebrates the enjoyment of taking a vacation alone.
The work is based on findings from the brand’s own Solo Travel Report which revealed that 50% of female solo travel enthusiasts are now more likely to holiday alone than they were five years ago, with two thirds (65%) saying they actually feel more confident when taking a trip by themselves.
In the 30-second film, called “booking brianless”, the unnamed woman enjoys eating oysters and riding a horse along the beach, while the voiceover tells viewers that while she loves her partner, he has different tastes to her.
The voiceover from British comedian Peter Serafinowicz – who appeared in ‘Spaced’ and ‘Alan Partridge’ and voiced Darth Maul in ‘Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace – says: “Brian’s awesome. But Brian doesn’t like seafood, or even like the sea for that matter – especially if there’s a horse involved.”
Booking.com claims that these women’s confidence in travelling solo could be connected to using a trusted method to book holiday accommodation.
The ad was created by Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam and is a follow-up to other humorous ads such as its first UK brand campaign, “booking epic”, which was released in February.
In the The 30-second ‘Brianless’ we hear the story of Jen, who loves her partner Brian, but doesn’t necessarily love the same type of holiday he does.
‘Brianless’ will air across the UK and US, as well as on Booking.com’s YouTube channel, from today, Monday 28 April, 2014.
