Game in partnership with Salmon unveil first UK high street online marketplace

Global commerce service provider, Salmon @SalmonLtd, today announced that they have implemented a marketplace consumer offering for Game Retail Ltd, @GAMEdigital the UK’s leading video games retailer, making them the first large high street retail brand to allow suppliers to sell an extended range of gaming products through an on-line marketplace.

The marketplace solution in game.co.uk allows Game to extend the range of gaming related products they offer and supports their specialist gaming proposition.

Andy Grainger, Chief Technology Officer at Game said: “Our customers now have one place to shop for everything gaming.  The marketplace allows us to offer complementary products that we don’t currently stock.  We now have over 60 new vendors on board and will look to increase this throughout 2015.  We will provide a great selection of products tailored to our customers’ gaming needs including clothing, retro games, figurines, mobile accessories, music, software, hardware and books.”

Game has now added an additional 120,000 new products onto Marketplace and the plans are to continue this growth this year.

Redesigned front-end

Salmon upgraded Game’s ecommerce platform (IBM WebSphere Commerce) and integrated Mirakl’s marketplace solution into the website via Game’s Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). A redesigned front-end now accommodates the marketplace products across the site and back-end changes have been implemented to manage the real-time calls to the Mirakl platform.  Products will be held and shipped by Game’s marketplace partners via home delivery.

Andy Grainger continued:  “The marketplace is a key component of our strategy to increase our market share and improve loyalty amongst our current customers.”

Neil Stewart, Chief Executive Officer at Salmon said:  “The new marketplace platform allows Game to enhance their customers’ experience by offering an extended range of products without having to worry about inventory, warehouse and logistical constraints.”
