Football news : Arsenal put Jack Wilshere on zero-hours contract

In a move thought to be the first of its kind Arsenal have placed midfielder Jack Wilshere on a zero-hours contract after running out of patience with the constantly injured player.

As a result Wilshere will now be paid only when he plays for the club, a move that is expected to reduce his monthly earnings from £360K to a projected £87.19.

Manager Arsene Wenger is understood to have become exasperated after the 23-year old was ruled out of the first two months of the season with a recurrent ankle injury. Before this latest setback Wilshere had told ArsenalFan TV that he was looking forward to long hard season of between eight and ten games.

On Wednesday the England international tweeted that he was ‘gutted’ with this latest injury and is understood to have dislocated his thumb in the process.

However, despite being side-lined until October Wilshere told Sky Sports today that he was confident he would be back to full fitness in time to get injured playing for England in next summer’s European Championships in France.
