Cats and customers are a difficult mix. To make a profit you need lots of customers but cats won’t do anything they don’t want to do and need quiet, calm spaces – away from crowds of people, says Lauren Pears, founder of Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium, London’s first cat café.

Yet despite the unpredictable nature of the 10 rescue cats who now live at the café, the business has proven to be a hit with cat lovers from all over the world.
It currently has a six-week waiting list and has clearly built on the success of its opening in 2014 – when it received 20,000 bookings in its first two weeks.
