WPP’s global brand strategy and design agency, Brand Union, (www.brandunion.com) has today announced the appointment of Alex Clegg as the new UK CEO.
Clegg will lead the UK team, providing innovative and bold leadership as the agency focuses on ambitious growth plans. Alex’s appointment comes at a key time for Brand Union as it installs a new approach to helping clients meet the wide variety of brand challenges they face today.
Clegg will work closely with Toby Southgate, Worldwide CEO, John Shaw, Chief Product Officer (CPO) and Alex Spark CFO, alongside the existing London management team, to evolve structure and deliver a new strategy for growth in London. Toby Southgate, Worldwide CEO at Brand Union commented:
“I am thrilled that Alex will be leading our UK hub. London is a vital component of our past, present, and future. And in Alex we have found a rare blend of entrepreneur, big agency experience, deep client relationships, and the integration of technology into brand communications”.
Alex is an industry veteran having previously held strategic roles at Saatchi & Saatchi, Ammirati Puris Lintas and most recently CEO of Ogilvy Group Vietnam. With more than two decades experience Alex’s career has spanned the entire breadth of the brand and communications business.
Under his leadership Ogilvy Vietnam became the fastest growing office in the region. Alex built the agency from 50 people delivering advertising, to 350 people working across digital services, production, design, activation marketing and PR. He has a proven ability to diversify traditional agencies and build new capabilities and service offers.
Clegg’s role follows the recent appointment of John Shaw to the newly created role of Chief Product Officer, responsible for overseeing the agency’s product, from strategy and creative to design and technology. These appointments manifest the evolution of the Brand Union of the future. Clegg’s new position will take effect in August.
Alex Clegg, UK CEO at Brand Union commented:
“Having been in this industry for over 20 years, my belief and passion for ideas and design are intrinsic to how I work. I’m delighted to be joining Brand Union’s talented team who share this dedication. The London office has a rich heritage of excellence and in my new role I will be building on this to drive the agency forward focusing on key growth opportunities.”
