Stripping Sir Philip Green of his knighthood over the collapse of BHS

MPs are set to vote in Parliament on stripping Sir Philip Green of his knighthood over the collapse of BHS.

Tory MP Richard Fuller formally tabled the bid as part of an unprecedented plan first revealed by the Mirror on Monday.Mr Fuller claimed MPs from across the political spectrum have already shown an interest in putting their names to the amendment.

That will pile pressure on Speaker John Bercow, who has the final say on whether to let MPs hold a formal vote on it during a debate on BHS next Thursday.

Philip Green made secret £2 million payments to top BHS staff as firm collapsed

Any vote would be purely symbolic but would pile pressure on the Honours Forfeiture Committee to consider taking action against the retail biallionaire.

The full amendment, seen by the Mirror, says: “Noting that Philip Green received his knighthood for his services for the retail industry, this House believes his actions raise the question of whether he should be allowed to continue to be a holder of the honour and calls on the Honours Forfeiture Committee to cancel and annul his knighthood.”
