Data marketing and insights firm Hitwise has investigated the internet search data of over 3 million Brits to find out what we really want to know when it comes to the cultural phenomenon that is Love Island
- Camilla is the most popular contestant amongst Brits
- Online searches for fake eyelashes double thanks to the show
- Jess and Mike controversy drives one in ten searches
- One in eight of ALL online searches for Calvin Klein are related to Love Islander Jamie
It’s official – the nation is hooked on Love Island. And new data released today by Hitwise, reveals that Camilla is officially the nation’s most popular Love Islander – having been searched for more online in the past five weeks than anyone else on the show, despite Montana being voted the villa’s ‘most popular’ girl.
The British beauty and ex-flame of Prince Harry has maintained number one spot as the most searched-for contestant for a third of the show’s duration[i].
Interestingly, Hitwise data also shows Brits are fascinated by her ‘eyelashes’, which are one of her top words people are searching for in conjunction with her. In fact, total online searches for ’fake eyelashes’ have nearly doubled (94.3%) likely thanks to the show.
What’s certainly not fake is Camilla’s feelings toward heart throb and ex-Calvin Klein model, Jamie. The nation quickly took to search engines to look for hunky pics of the villa’s new man, with nearly 1 in every 8 of all internet searches (12.1%) for “Calvin Klein” relating to the Love Islander after Monday night’s episode[ii].
Speaking of couples – Jess and Mike and the ‘did they, didn’t they’ saga. On the day of the biggest Love Island controversy so far[iii], nearly 1 in 10 (9.5%) of all searches around ‘Love Island’ were related to Jess, as Brits quickly searched for clues as to what actually happened that night.
