Last night, Joanna Lumley hosted the Baftas for the very first time, taking over from Stephen Fry, who has done the honour 12 times.
Twitter was alight with positive reviews about Lumley’s performance, however some fans were not at all happy with Jennifer Lawrence, who they think threw Lumley’s compliment back in her face.

“Let’s starting giving out some of those beautiful Baftas shall we,” Lumley said at the beginning of the show, as introduced Lawrence on stage to help present an award. “And we start with the award for Outstanding British Film and who better to kick the whole evening off than the hottest actress on the planet. Soon to be in Red Sparrow, it’s the ravishing Jennifer Lawrence.”

Lawrence then came on stage and joked: “Hi, that was a bit much, but thank you Joanna.”
Known for her good-natured humour, we can be quite sure that Lawrence was simply making a light-hearted joke, however Lumley’s fans on Twitter were not happy with her jibe.
