Entrepreneurs … Number of budding entrepreneurs plummets

The number of budding entrepreneurs in Britain wanting to launch their own businesses has plummeted, research reveals.

Just 14pc of Britons want to start a company, down from 39pc three years ago, according to the survey conducted by high street lender NatWest.

The bank also found only 17pc of people think now is a good time to found a firm, with fear of failure (30pc), the current economic climate (24pc) and lack of right skills (20pc) cited as common concerns.

The results were published to coincide with fresh NatWest plans to double the amount of free training it offers to UK entrepreneurs.

The lender said it is targeting supporting 5,000 entrepreneurs this year, up from 2,500 in 2017.
