Mac’s new operating system has some issues.
After the official macOS Catalina release date in early October, we already saw a supplemental update, which was supposed to fix lingering bug and credibility problems.
The update aims to enable a more reliable installation for those with low disk space on their computers.
It’s great that Apple offered an update so soon after the macOS Catalina release date. What’s not so great is that some issues persist after that. We’ll need a few more performance improvements and bug fixes before we can say that Catalina is perfect.
Until then, we’re left with a few macOS Catalina problems and fixes. There are possible ways to solve some of the most common issues. Let’s see how you can do that.
Common macOS Catalina Problems and Ways to Fix Them
Bluetooth Not Working
If you’re used to keyboards and headphones that work on Bluetooth, this is a major issue for you. It’s also one of the most commonly reported macOS Catalina problems.
For faulty audio on your headphones, you should try removing them and then pairing them with the computer again. You can delete the device in Bluetooth preferences (just click the Bluetooth icon on the upper right corner of your screen to access that function). After that, pair the device with the computer.
Some users can’t get the Bluetooth function working even after that. In that case, you’ll need to delete the plist file for Bluetooth.
Access System Configuration under Library > Preferences. Here, delete com.apple.Bluetooth.plist. After this, restart the computer and see if Bluetooth works.
Mail Data Loss
You face the issue of incomplete or missing messages after updating to macOS 10.15 Catalina? It happens, and it’s a major bummer. Some users only see a header with a blank message. There’s a way to fix macOS Catalina problems of this type: you’ll rely on Time Machine.
Use that feature on your computer to get the previous versions of your messages. Then, you can import them into your Mail by using File > Import Mailboxes.
Sidecar Not Working
Sidecar was the most interesting feature that got people’s attention before the macOS Catalina release date. Unfortunately, not many users got to the part that Sidecar wouldn’t be available for all devices running Catalina.
If you can’t use the feature, try restarting the devices first. If that doesn’t solve the problem, it means that your iPad or Mac is too old. This isn’t one of the macOS Catalina problems that have easy fixes. The fix is to spend a lot of money on a new device.
Sidecar works with the following Macs:
-
iMac Pro from 2017 and on
-
MacBook from 2016 and on
-
MacBook Air from 2018 and on
-
Mac Pro from 2019
-
Mac Mini from 2018
-
MacBook Pro from 2016 and on
-
iMac 27’’ from 2015 and on
Your iPad has to be compatible, too. Sidecar is functional with iPad Pro, iPad Air 3, iPad Mini 5, iPad 7, and iPad 6.
Problems with WiFi Connectivity
Not many users complain about connectivity macOS Catalina problems, but it happens. If you’re unable to connect your computer to WiFi or a personal hotspot after the upgrade, it’s easy to fix macOS Catalina problems of that type.
Try by turning the WiFi off at first. Don’t rush turning it back on; wait for at least 15 seconds. Once you turn the WiFi back on, your computer should be able to connect.
If the problem doesn’t go away, maybe it’s your WiFi network. Are your other devices able to connect? Try restarting the network and see what happens.
Battery Life macOS Catalina Problems
As background tasks take place for the first day or two after the Catalina install, it’s possible for you to see the battery draining with the speed of light. It shouldn’t be a big issue, and it should be solved within a day or two. If you see it persist after a few days, it may be a problem.
The first thing to try is a restart. Then, make sure to update all your apps to their latest versions.
After this, click the battery button. It shows the apps that affect Mac’s battery life. Your computer is still performing background tasks if you see Spotlight there. Give it some time. If you see other apps that you don’t need running, close them.
MacOS 10.15 Catalina Is Still Great
When an operating system upgrade is launched, some issues are expected. Apple works on them, and we should see new updates coming up. So far, macOS 10.15 Catalina surprised its users with pretty cool features. Sidecar shouldn’t be underestimated. The ability to use an iPad as a second screen is great, since it enables the user to design with Apple Pen.
