Colin Lloyd steps down, to be replaced by Michelle de Souza as Chair of a new-look TPS Ltd Board
Colin Lloyd, long-standing Chair of the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) Limited, has announced he will step down from his position on 31 December 2019 following the successful win of the TPS tender earlier this year.
He will be replaced by Michelle de Souza, Chief Data Officer at Age UK, who currently sits on TPS Ltd Board and the Data & Marketing Association (DMA) Board.
Colin Lloyd said of his decision: “Having successfully won the tender for TPS, I felt the time was right to focus on the governance of TPS Ltd. There is a general rule of thumb about the length of time one can be a non-executive director while retaining impartiality and independence.
I believe now is the perfect opportunity for a refresh of the leadership of TPS Ltd, so I have decided to step down as Chair.”
Chris Combemale, CEO for the DMA, said: “I’d like to personally thank Colin for his two decades of service to the TPS.
His commitment to the principles of ethical and responsible marketing practices have helped to lead the Board through some challenging times over his tenure.
I’d also like to welcome Michelle as the new Chair and look forward to her expertise and insights on how to continue to enhance the service in the future.”
Michelle de Souza said: “Taking on the role of Chair is an exciting proposition and I look forward to bringing the TPS Ltd Board closer to the DMA to ensure that we are aligned with the DMA’s customer-first principles and belief in responsible marketing.”
TPS Ltd – and its Board – was originally set up by the Data & Marketing Association (DMA) in 1997 prior to legislation that made it a legal requirement that companies do not make unsolicited sales and marketing calls.
The original legislation was then introduced in May 1999 and has subsequently been updated – the relevant legislation is the Privacy and Electronic (EC Directive) Regulations 2003.
The full TPS Board for 2020 includes:
-
Michelle de Souza (Chair), Chief Data Officer at Age UK
-
Elaine Lee, Managing Director at ReynoldsBusbyLee
-
Mandy Merron, Partner at MooreKingstonSmith
-
Mike Lordan, Director of External Affairs at the DMA
