I want to take you through how business owners can maximise their leads and sales during this period through SEO. Whether your business is benefiting from the current situation or the opposite, the following tip we should all be doing to help grow our business.

1.     Set Up a Google My Business Account

If you have not already, go to google my business and set your business up here. All businesses should have this, but this is specifically vital for local businesses. Creating this will make it easier for people to find your brand when searching for your brand name.

Google my business allows users to see information regarding your information and any offers you might have. There is also an analytics sections which shows the amounts of view you get whether it’s users getting directions to your business account or going to your website.

You can also ask users to leave a review on your business page.

2.     Understand what users search for (AKA Keyword Research)

Before embarking on any SEO campaign, you need to know what your target audience are searching for. It amazes me that this is not one of the first thing that business owners do.

You can use the following tools to do keyword research, plus they are all free.

  • Google search console

  • Answer the public

  • Google trend

  • Rank Tracker

3.     Utilise business partnerships to build link

This is an area most businesses doesn’t take advantage of when trying to maximise their SEO performance.

The way you do this will be completely specific to your niche. However, as an example, if you are an SEO agency like me and have awards, make sure those websites are linking to you.

4.     Create relevant directory listings for your business

Directory listings are great to help you boost your local SEO performance, furthermore they are a great way of generating links to your website which will help with your website’s overall authority.

5.     Make your website fast

Making sure your website is fast is becoming a very important ranking factor as google looks to serve the most user-friendly sites to its searchers.

If your website has been created by an agency, ask them to do a speed audit.

You can also use the following tool which will give you an insight into how fast your website is and where speed improvements can be made.

6.     Use Free SEO Tools

There are a range of free SEO tools you can be using to help make important changes on your website. Google search console is the most important tool all business owners should be using. Not only does it provide great insights into specific keywords that generate traffic and impressions, but it also highlights technical errors.

Even the paid tools such a Sem rush, Moz & Ahrefs have a level of free access which is great to use.

7.     Get an On-site SEO Audit

If you are currently seeing a decrease in the amount of leads and enquiries your business is getting, you could look to invest in a SEO Audit. This will help you increase your visibility across search engines providing further traffic that can turn into leads.

When creating landing pages for either products or your services. Make sure you use your keyword research and optimise them accordingly. Otherwise how are the search engines or users able to understand what is on these pages?

9.     Focus on ROI

This is an area a lot of SEO’s and digital marketers seem to miss when building a campaign. What product or service is generating the most money for you as a company?

Make sure you prioritise these in your SEO strategy and across other marketing channels!

You will probably read this on 99% of articles about SEO & for good reason.

Google loves websites that continue to update their users with new content.

Recently I spoke to business owner who was creating a regular flow of blog content that generated great traffic on his site, but he was not internally linking to the relevant services on this website.

Internal linking is not only a great way to pass SEO authority through your website, but it is also a great way to get your users onto pages where they can convert into customers. Use call to actions in your anchor texts.

12.  Get Reviews

All businesses should be trying to generate reviews from their customers.

They can help you improve your services as well as show potential customers that you’re a genuine brand.

You can also implement schema mark up for reviews on your website which will then show across google searches. This is a great way to increase your click through rate on your website and generate more traffic.

13.  Set up Google analytics

Google analytics is vital for understanding how and where people interact with your website.

It is absolutely essential that all businesses have this installed on their website.

Once installed you can see what channel your users came from, including organic, paid, referral traffic to name a few. It is a great way to track the performance of your marketing spend & how well each channel converts.

Whether it’s looking for backlink inspiration or how to optimise your pages, be sure to look at what your competitors are doing.

Don’t look to copy but look to better what they’re doing to ensure you get the results you are after.
