How to boost morale in a small office?

Boost

High office morale can increase employee productivity, decrease staff turnover rates and help your workforce feel more fulfilled within the company. In return, you will notice your company thriving. This demonstrates the importance of maintaining morale within the office environment. This article explores ways in which you can boost morale in a small office environment.

Let employees choose the music

Music has been demonstrated to improve our productivity as well as our cognitive performance, which is why playing music in the office could be beneficial for boosting office morale. Consider letting your office create its own playlist so that your workforce has the freedom to listen to the music they enjoy. Research also suggests that listening to music we already know and love is more practical than listening to music we haven’t heard before, as the lyrics will be less distracting.

Remember significant dates

By making a conscious effort to remember dates that could be important to your workforce, you can make your employees feel appreciated. These dates could be as simple as birthdays, the anniversary of when they joined the company, religious holidays or milestone achievements. With this in mind, the best way to showcase that you remember these dates is by offering cards or gifts such as cake. On the other hand, you could consider using decorations like balloons and banners.

Reward your employees for their successes

In general, employees feel happier and more settled when their hard work is recognised by company leaders. By setting up employee recognition programs, you can showcase to your workforce that you appreciate their efforts, which in return will lead to increased morale and happiness, especially in smaller offices. Using methods like these to recognise employees’ accomplishments creates a positive company culture, therefore boosting general morale in the office and reducing staff turnover rates.

Buying lunch for the office

A small act of kindness like buying lunch for everyone can have a huge impact on your staff’s morale in the office. Even if this is done just one day a month, it can show your staff that you care for their wellbeing.  Make sure you check the dietary requirements of your staff to ensure everybody is catered for.  On top of this, it will create an opportunity for the whole office to sit down and socialise with one another, bringing the office together as a community and helping to develop a positive company culture.

Plan office get-togethers and outings

An office party or day out can encourage the office to bond. Once an office feels more bonded you will notice that in general there is better office morale. These outings can also give employees something to look forward to after working hard all week, helping them to stay motivated. There are various get-togethers you could plan such as a bowling trip, arcade day or escape room. Ideally, plan something that encourages the team to mingle or work together as a team!
