Cathy Newman recalls ‘intimidating and unpleasant’ propositioning by national newspaper editor
26 February 2013
Channel 4 News presenter Cathy Newman has revealed how an unnamed national newspaper editor repeatedly propositioned her after she had made it “patently clear that I wasn’t interested”.MediaMonkey spotted this in the Telegraph …  Cathy Newman, former media correspondent on the Financial Times, rose through the ranks to become a presenter on Channel 4 News. But not without a 10-year stint in the sexist lobby where one MP thought she was a secretary and she had to suffer salacious texts from a peer.

But what will have tongues wagging is her revelation in a full-page piece in the Telegraph on Tuesday that she was once propositioned by a national newspaper editor, even though he knew she was in a serious relationship and was not interested.

She recalls an incident at a party political conference. “A man who was then the editor of a national newspaper started propositioning me in the bar, despite knowing I was in a long-term relationship, and despite me making it patently clear that I wasn’t interested … But the minute I got up to my room, the phone rang.

It was the very same editor asking if could share my room because he had omitted to book himself into a hotel.” And so the guessing game shall begin. There aren’t that many national newspapers and there aren’t that many editors.
