Viking Blond appeared as if he failed to deal with the occasion in this race last year and came down at the first fence.
He has another season on his back this time around and ran really well in a good trial for this race, the Welsh National. Nigel Twiston-Davies’ horse finished third to Monbeg Dude at Chepstow on heavy ground and this horse probably needs that sort of softer surface to show his best.
