Pamela Anderson ad banned for being degrading to women
In the ad for Crazy Domains, the 45-year-old “Dancing on Ice” star and a female colleague play business women in a board room full of men. Not only do the two women wear suits with shirts open down to their navels, but one of the men then proceeds to imagine them in bikinis, covered in cream (for some reason).
After reportedly receiving four complaints, the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority pulled the commercial, which was scheduled to run after 9 p.m. The Guardian reported that Clearcast, which ensures advertisers comply with broadcast rules, said they passed the ad because Anderson is a “celebrity who was known for flaunting her body.” The ASA did not agree.

People talk about sexism towards women in ads a lot but nobody really mentions it when it’s towards men. Men are painted in a pretty rough light by the advertising industry. In adverts men are usually useless, and at the mercy of their wives to save the day. They are portrayed as stupid and lazy, unable to keep a house clean or wash clothes, or stupid and #$%$ it isn’t fair. It works two ways. Advertisers, please stop using such outdated boys v girls style advertising, it isn’t helping anyone.
