According to Bownty, the daily deal aggregator, mobile spending among Brits has shot up in the first six months of 2013.

Thanks to an increasing number of smartphone and tablet users, Bownty saw a 25 per cent increase in mobile purchases between January and June this year.

More than 40 per cent of transactions made through Bownty, which sources daily deals from over 100 sites including Groupon, Living Social and Wowcher, took place on a mobile device, compared to a third in January.

According to the website, Brits use their mobile phones to spend more than £500,000 on daily deals in an average day, buying everything from restaurant vouchers to beauty treatments.

“This rapid growth shows that more and more consumers are willing to spend money through their mobile devices, with shopping on the move becoming a reality,” says Steffen Frolund, Founder and CEO of Bownty.

“At Bownty, our ‘mobile first’ strategy reflects the increasing importance of mobile commerce, and we are always looking for ways to improve the mobile user experience,”

“With the number of UK smartphone users set to continue to rise, we expect mobile transactions to overtake desktop spending before the end of the year,” continues Frolund.

Bownty recently conducted research into ‘One Day in Daily Deals’, looking at deals sold across the UK on 10 June. This investigation showed that on an average day, Brits spent more than £1.3 million on national and local deals.

“Daily deals and vouchers lend themselves perfectly to mobile, as they are quite often impulse buys. If you see a great offer on your phone, you don’t want to wait until you get home to buy it on your desktop,” concludes Frolund.
