LG announced the LG G Pad 8.3 on Sunday after a bevy of rumours over the past couple of months. Packing an 8.3-inch full HD display (1900 x 1200 resolution / 273 pixels-per-inch), the G Pad is set to take on a new iPad mini from Apple that is rumoured to launch sometime by the end of the year.
LG, the electronics giant out of South Korea, has packed a 1.7GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Processor, 16GB of storage, 4,600 mAh battery, 5-megapixel rear-camera, 1.3-megapixel front-camera, and 2GB of RAM, into the 8.3-inch tablet.
Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 is found on the tablet, with LG’s custom UX on-top that includes “features unique to the LG G Pad 8.3 are maximized for a large screen.” One of those features is “QPair,” which allows G Pad users to pair to their smartphone and manage calls and messages directly from their tablet.
The build of the G Pad 8.3 is reminiscent of the rest of LG’s mobile device line, including the recently announced G2. Sleek curves with a brushed back and crisp display have become the normal routine for LG.
“Complementing our G Series smartphones, the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 further strengthens LG’s premium lineup consisting of our most cutting-edge devices,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our G Pad is just another example of LG delivering devices with the unique selling points consumers around the world will appreciate.”
LG says you’ll find the G Pad 8.3 in both black and white. The tablet will become available in North America, Europe and Asia as well as other regions starting in the fourth quarter of 2013. No prices have been announced as of yet.
LG announced the G Pad 8.3 six days before the IFA tradeshow kicks-off on 6 September. The company is “set to officially debut (the tablet) next week at the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin.”
