Twelve seemingly very different women from diverse backgrounds and professions represent the very best of British, the perfect ambassadors to present our new M&S autumn/winter collections. These women all possess intelligence, the confidence to succeed and innate personal style. From the physical strength and dedication of athletes and dancers, the honed skills of entertainers, the imagination of creative visionaries and the tireless campaigners, these women are pioneers in their fields. With that in mind, who better to photograph them than Annie Leibovitz, known for her era-defining work. Welcome to our new autumn/winter campaign.
“What happens to you doesn’t have to define you, it’s what you do afterwards.
The thing that drives me is my passion for people, and I want to do what I can to enable them to be all that they can be.
People and what people achieve in their lives.
My mum and my step-dad, anything that I’ve put my hand to and enjoyed, they’ve followed me all the way.
I want to show people there’s another way of doing things. When people say to you, ‘No, you can’t do that’ I want to say, Yes you can.
We are all women, keeping the plate spinning. Juggling children and jobs trying to do everything well. At the end of the day, we are all fundamentally very similar, even though we’re pursuing different passions.”
