Four week development cycle for the AA’s Windows 8 app suite

LONDON, 16 October 2013 – Metia, an international digital marketing agency, today announced the launch of four Windows 8 apps for the AA’s UK Lifestyle guide series. A Microsoft partner, and one of a small group of Windows 8 app suppliers to Microsoft itself, Metia based the suite of apps on a single design and code base. This approach enabled a rapid four week development time for each of the apps.

“The AA Lifestyle apps are widely used by our customers and so need to deliver a great user experience. Metia has a strong track record of working with top consumer brands and it was clear that this experience would benefit us during the design and development process,” said Jeff Triner, Mobile Development Manager, the AA. “The apps have now been live in the Windows Store for a few days and already are proving popular.”

The new Windows 8 apps cover the AA Hotel Guide, AA Caravan & Camping Guide, AA Restaurant Guide and AA B&B Guide. Using the apps allows customers to browse thousands of AA-recommended and inspected places to eat and stay. Geo-location presents the options closest to each user; alternatively the entire inventory of hotels, camp sites, restaurants or B&Bs can be browsed offline, when there is limited network access.

“Having already worked with the likes of vouchercloud, TVCatchup and Jobsite on Windows apps, we understand the need to simplify the design and development process and make it more cost effective, while still delivering a great user experience,” said Steve Ellis, CEO, Metia. “In collaboration with the team at the AA we decided on a single design architecture and development code base from which to consume the different content APIs, this approach ensured a consistent, rapid delivery of all the apps for this project.”

The AA apps are available via Windows Store here.
