MP Eric Pickles certainly didn’t crumble when he was quizzed about his Government’s department’s £10,000 overspend on…biscuits.
The Brentwood and Ongar MP, who is Communities and Local Government secretary, was forced to defend himself when questioned about his biscuit budget live on radio.
Figures suggested his department’s spending on custard creams, digestives and ginger nuts had rapidly risen from £30,000 to £40,000 in just a year.
However, Mr Pickles said the increase was an “administrative error” – and cheekily added it was still lower than when Labour were in power.
