London UK, 16th December, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd today announced the promotion of Andy Griffiths to President of the Samsung business in the UK and Ireland, a new role in which Andy will continue to lead the entire UK business as it goes from strength-to-strength.
Andy’s promotion follows a year in which Samsung has seen impressive growth across all three of its business groups. In Consumer Electronics, Samsung has made its intentions of making a mark on the domestic appliances market clear. In the TV business it has been a record year, with Samsung leading the way with curved OLED and UHD. Mobile has seen huge success with the launch of the much anticipated Galaxy S4 and Gear, as well as a range of other innovative products and Samsung’s B2B business has flourished under Andy’s leadership.
Aside from commercial success, Andy has been instrumental in ensuring Samsung supports a range of educational initiatives that are committed to narrowing the technology skills gap. Examples include Samsung’s support of Code Club, aimed at introducing young children in the UK to coding; investment in further Samsung Digital Academies, state-of-the-art training centres for vocational training, and extending the partnership with the British Museum, one of Samsung’s many cultural partners.
Previously, Andy held the role of Managing Director, Samsung Electronics, UK and Ireland, heading up all three business groups: Consumer Electronics, Information Technology and Mobile and B2B.
Andy will continue to work closely with Mr. John Kim, who has now been promoted from the role of Deputy Managing Director, Samsung UK and Ireland, to Deputy President, SEUK. This will also be a new role for the UK and Ireland business.
