The SSE Hydro has been industry recognised with a further three prestigious awards – amounting to six gongs since the venue opened at the end of last year.
Scotland’s new concert and event arena was awarded the “Chairman’s Award for Architecture” at The Scottish Design Awards on 05 June 2014 in Glasgow. At the same event the venue’s designers, Foster + Partners and Arup picked up two further gongs in the “Architecture – Lighting” and “Architecture: Leisure/Culture Building or Project” categories.
The previous hat-trick of awards included ‘Most Stylish Venue’ at the Scottish Style Awards and two further accolades for design, one of which was the highly coveted Supreme Award presented by the Glasgow Institute of Architects – the first of its kind to be awarded in three years.
Peter Duthie, CEO, SEC Ltd / The SSE Hydro said:
“These awards are a fantastic achievement and testament to how well The SSE Hydro has been received. From the day we opened it has been a team effort and everyone involved should be warmly commended.
“With the arrival of both the Commonwealth Games next month and a full calendar of events throughout the year there will seldom be a quiet day. It’s going to be a massive year for us.”
