Content marketing platform NewsCred has appointed former SAP VP of global marketing and content strategy, Michael Brenner, as its new head of strategy. Brenner brings over 20 years of experience in marketing and sales to NewsCred, including seven years at global enterprise software provider SAP across three different roles.
Brenner’s new role will see him work with brands and agencies to help them develop their content marketing strategies. He will also advise them on how best to use NewsCred’s Content Marketing Cloud platform, which allows marketers to curate, commission, distribute and analyse content.
In his role at SAP, Brenner placed a strong focus on content marketing and in fact worked with NewsCred to amplify its reach. Prior to SAP, Brenner also co-founded Business2Community, a leading online social news site. Brenner has been recognised in Forbes’ Top 40 Social Media Marketers, and as ‘One of the Most Mentioned Marketers on Twitter’.

“The digital, social and mobile world has fundamentally changed the way we consume information and interact with brands. Promotional marketing tactics continue to become less effective as we all filter and ignore the content we don’t want or need,” said Brenner.
“While brands need to become storytellers to create human and emotional connections with their audience, the challenge isn’t telling one good story. It’s about creating content that scales to meet the needs of today’s consumer across many formats, many channels, and in a personalised, continuous, real time and affordable way.”
Shafqat Islam, CEO and co-founder of NewsCred added: “Michael’s innovative way of thinking about content marketing and years of
experience make him the perfect choice to lead NewsCred’s strategy offering as it draws on his strength as both an educator and pioneer in the marketing industry.
“Content marketing is an imperative for businesses today because it represents the gap between what customers want and what brands produce. Michael’s aim is to help businesses to close that gap, reach new customers and win new business.”
Brenner began his new role at NewsCred this week. His appointment follows NewsCred’s recent funding round in January, which raised £15m in investment. The company has raised close to £27m since it was founded in 2008. NewsCred also recently announced a partnership with Getty Images to allow brands to commission their own bespoke photography from events.
