The Next Round with Steph and Dom
|
Steph and Dom Parker (aged 48 and 50, respectively), known for their honest and chatty manner in the acclaimed British observational documentary and cult hit Gogglebox, have teamed up with savings and pension experts Standard Life to help demystify pensions. Speaking to real people about their plans for the future and the impact of the April 2015 pension reforms, they star in a short film, shot at the Queens Head pub in Islington, London, which looks at misconceptions and the lack of understanding surrounding the pension changes.
The aim of the online film, titled ‘The Next Round with Steph and Dom’ is to strip back the jargon around pensions and mis sold pensions and help the public understand the choices they have from next April and to demonstrate that Standard Life is ready if and when they decide to act.
Viewers will be able to witness conversations between Steph and Dom and an array of pub patrons, from John Lee who dreams about retiring to the country and building a kit car, to long-time friends Jackie Wills and Suzanna Wilson, who despite being in their late 60s plan on taking a “gap year” funded by some of their pension.
Dom Parker: “The new pension freedoms are going to put people more in control. We all need to get more savvy so we don’t get to mid-retirement and realise we just haven’t done enough. The film we created with Standard Life is speaking to real people about these changes and their own pensions.”
Steph Parker: “Pensions aren’t the easiest things to get your head around. I can’t remember the last time I actually stopped to think about my pension. With the new changes coming next year, it’s really important to know the ins and outs and plan ahead.”
Research conducted by Standard Life has revealed that there is a widespread lack of awareness regarding the reforms, and among those who are aware, misconceptions are prevalent. A quarter of people between the ages of 50-65 with a pension (25%) are unaware of the pension reforms at all and four out of five (78%) don’t know what the reforms will mean for them.
Stephen Ingledew, Managing Director Customer & Marketing at Standard Life, commented: “We have recently launched a new campaign –#ReadyWhenUAre – to educate and engage those impacted by the reforms. As part of this we’re delighted to be working with Steph and Dom, one of the UK’s most-loved TV duos, to help spread the message regarding the April pension reforms and what they mean for those affected.
“The conversations are not only highly entertaining, but will draw a lot of attention to what are going to be the biggest reforms to pensions in a generation. We know pensions aren’t the easiest thing for people to get their head around, so we wanted to address this in a fun and entertaining, yet educational way.”
