Chris Taylor of Red Rocket Media writes …Google has craftily updated its email platform Gmail, introducing a host of integrated features designed to draw attention to its Google+ social network.
Cnet.com reports that there are two major tweaks this week; both of which designed to show off a user’s calling card on the Google+ network.
For example, one feature now allows Gmail users to quickly access the contact details of the person to whom they are writing. Now when users search for their recipient, they will see ‘contact details in addition to that person’s profile photo and the e-mails sent from and to them’, a blog post says.
At this point, users can contact that person in a number of ways, including initiating online chats and calling their mobile amongst other things. All correspondents with a Google+ profile will have their contact information updated automatically; handy for those who change their details a lot.
Secondly, the firm is to improve Google+’s circle integration and circle search functions. Friends in a Google+ user’s circle are now visible in their contact pages, for example, complete with full profile picture in tow. It’s possible that this feature will inspire people to follow the videos, comments or blog content of a Google+ user by following the link.
The gmailblog.blogspot.co.uk explains: ‘Users can now search for messages from a specific circle by typing ‘circle:[circle name]‘ in the search box.
‘You can also find mail from any of your circled contacts by searching with ‘has:circle’. You can refine your search even further with other criteria and create filters based on circles.’
As a result, users can filter all unread emails from their ‘Friends’ circle or star every message that comes from their ‘VIP’ circle, if they so wish.
