Travis Perkins has announced plans to create 4,000 jobs by opening 400 new branches across the UK over the next four years.
The majority of the positions will be outside London and the south east and consist of apprenticeships for younger people, branch managers, assistant managers, skilled IT professionals and supply chain specialists.
The builders’ merchant says it is investing £150-200m per year in the project as a response to improved housing affordability.
It listed the government’s Help-to-Buy scheme, recent reforms to stamp duty and lower unemployment as providing stimulus to the overall housing market and people’s ability to invest in improving their homes.
Travis Perkins, employs more than 24,000 people at 2,000 branches across the UK. The new branches will be opened across the company’s Travis Perkins, Wickes, Toolstation and Benchmarx chains.
