BBC’s archives are set to open to paying customers with online service - Allows viewers to buy TV programmes for as little as £1.89 per episode
- Corporation is putting 6,000 hours of its content up for sale on BBC Store
- Puts it in competition with internet giants like Amazon Prime and Apple’s iTunes
The library available through the BBC Store includes classic programmes such as Fawlty Towers, The Likely Lads, Yes Minister and Only Fools and Horses, as well as modern offerings – with viewers able to buy the previous night’s EastEnders.
Shows such as The Great British Bake Off, which have not been released on DVD, will also be available for the first time, as well as programmes from stars Nigella Lawson, Sir David Attenborough and Louis Theroux.
