“Pub sign offering ‘to nail children to the table’ goes viral” – oldie but goldie

The Black Lion pub in Leighton Buzzard has got into hot water after putting up a sign that said staff would nail children who are running around to the table.

What do you think? Is it offensive or is it just a bit of fun? Is it a blunder by the pub?

Some have said the sign goes too far and makes light of child abuse.

One Facebook user wrote:

“Personally I find this sign disgusting. [They] should be arrested for promoting child abuse and closed down by Trading Standards for the same offence.”

Other have defended the pub, saying it was just a joke.

Landlady Nikki Brodin who put the sign up told the BBC that the pub is kid-friendly but they wanted people to be able to “talk and socialise and not have children running around screaming”.

Fair enough, but nailing kids to the table goes a little too far and should probably be discouraged.

One viewpoint from Linda Clark … It’s just a joke for goodness sake. Letting you know not to let your kids run about in the pub. Liquids, glass, hot food and people that have come in for a drink and don’t want kids running about. Common manners on the parents part I would have thought.

Why is there always some pathetic person who wants to bring attention to something said in jest by ‘taking it literally’? Don’t go in the pub then! – Get on with your stupid, picky life and move on. Idiots – never mind the kids they need to grow up.
